Lesson Plan

Objectives, at the end of the lesson pupils will be able to:
1. Identify how many stages there are in a frog’s life cycle.
2. Arrange the cycle in order.
3. Name the 5 stages correctly.
4. Compare the stages with other animals’ life cycle.
5. Retain the content of the lesson.

Lesson Content:

Set Induction

1. Teacher will begin the lesson by doing an Interactive White Board (IWB) activity.

2. Pupils will be shown a blacked out screen on the IWB. Behind the black screen is actually a picture of a frog.

3. Teacher would then use the Spotlight tool of the IWB, which enables the teacher to show a small part of the whole frog picture. A certain part of the frog is shown to the pupils and the pupils will be asked what type of animal they are familiar with that has that body part.

Lesson Introduction (Explanation)

4. Teacher would distribute handouts, which contains the notes on ‘Life Cycle of a Frog’.

5. When distribution of the handouts is done the teacher would inform the pupils that a video would be shown to them on the IWB.

6. The teacher would instruct the students to keep quiet and pay attention to the video due to the handouts being related to the video. The video would be 3 minutes long and it shows the life cycle of a frog.

7. After the video has been shown to the pupils, the teacher would then instruct the pupils to read their handouts.

8. Teacher would then explain to the pupils the meaning of life cycles and then each stage of the frog’s life cycle.

9. The teacher would also show the pupils the 5 stages of the frog’s life cycle by use of a ‘Life Cycle of a Frog’ image on the IWB (as visual reinforcement).

Demonstration

10. Teacher instruct the pupils to gather around and shows real live objects such as frog’s egg, tadpoles and frog, which would be placed in two separate mini aquariums.

Group

11. Teacher would then tell the pupils that they are now going to do a group activity. The pupils are instructed to return to their seats and grouping order.

Activity 1

12. The first activity would be labeling each of the 5 elements in the frog’s life cycle; elements such as the Eggs, Tadpole, Tadpole with legs, Froglet and Adult Frog.

Activity 2

13. The second activity would be identifying and arranging the frog’s life cycle. Both activities would be done on the IWB.

14. Teacher would then tell the pupils to elect one representative from their group to write the answer.

Assessment (Classwork)
15. To further assess the pupils understanding the teacher would then hand out class work to each pupil. In the hand out there would be two sections that consist of ‘Fill in the blanks’ and ‘Labeling’.

16. Teacher asks pupils to submit their handouts when they are already finished with their work.

Closure + Homework

17. At the end of the class, teacher will review the lesson by asking the pupils what they have learned from today’s lesson. And give them homework to do on their way out of the class. The homework consists of two sections; Crossword Puzzle and Word Search.

Activity:
1. Guessing pictures on the Interactive White Board
2. Watching a video of a frog’s life cycle.
3. Observing live objects in a mini aquarium.
4. 1st Interactive White Board Activity: Labeling each of the 5 elements in the frog’s life cycle; elements such as the Eggs, Tadpole, Tadpole with legs, Froglet and Adult Frog.
5. 2nd Interactive White Board Activity: Identifying and arranging the frog’s life cycle.

Assessment:
1. Hand out class work 1: ‘Fill in the blanks’.
2. Hand out class work 2: ‘Labeling’.
3. Hand out homework 1: Crossword Puzzle.
4. Hand out homework 2: Word Search.

Closure:
Conclude and review the lesson given to them as well as give the pupils homework. An oral questioning session would be done with questions like: -
• What they understand so far about a frog’s life cycle.
• Why frogs lays their eggs in the water, even though they can live both in water and land.
• Name the elements in a frog’s life cycle in order.
• Name the stages of a frog’s life cycle in order.
